History has been written and with a ninth Super Bowl appearance, the New England Patriots are your Super Bowl LI Champions! Coming back from a 25 point deficit in the second half, the largest in Super Bowl History, the Patriots overthrew the Atlanta Falcons for a franchise fifth Super Bowl win in an overtime win. With the skills of Tom Brady and Julian Edelman, the Patriots ruined Matt Ryan’s, and the rest of the Dirty Birds’, shot at a first Super Bowl win for Atlanta. This season, however, would never have been as exciting as it were without the incredible play of the other 30 teams, including the Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers. This 2016-17 season became a season ruled by rookies, including Joey Bosa, Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, all of whom took home season honors.

As the 2017 NFL season begins, the New England Patriots look to defend their Super Bowl title. Meanwhile, other great teams look for redemption from last season’s disappointments, none hungrier than Matt Ryan’s Atlanta Falcons. A league that is ruled by quarterback’s success, this season is one that is destined to see the emergence of some new stars, like Houston Texans rookie Deshaun Watson and 2nd overall pick, Mitchell Trubisky of the Chicago Bears who have both taken over the starting roles. Already established teams look to return to former glory in the NFC as the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers look to build off of last season’s success; while last season’s first and second overall picks, Jared Goff and Carson Wentz, keen on leading the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles into the playoffs. The AFC has been dominated by the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers for over a decade. A new crop of competition has sprung up eager to overthrow the establishment with the development of the Kansas City Chiefs, and Oakland Raiders young core of talent.

The 2017 MLB season would, for the first time in 108 years, see the Chicago Cubs take the field on Opening Day as the defending World Series Champions. With a talented core the likes of Javier Baez, Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo, the Cubs have returned to the postseason and look to repeat their history as World Series Champions as they once did in 1907 and 1908. Fellow National League contenders, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals have their own core of prominent All-Stars. The Dodgers are led by arguably the best pitcher in baseball, Clayton Kershaw and their left-handed hitting sluggers Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger. The Nats have one of the baseballs biggest superstars in Bryce Harper to go along with former AL and NL Cy Young winner Max Schrezer. In the American League there are the Cleveland Indians who are looking to end their own World Series drought of 68 years. AL Cy Young award winner, Corey Kluber anchors the best pitching staff in the MLB, while Francisco Lindor and Jason Kipnis are at the forefront of one of the most balanced offensive attacks in history. The Boston Red Sox were looking for someone to replace David Ortiz, and Mookie Betts has stepped up to assume that role accompanied by record-breaking left-hander Chris Sale. Meanwhile, their rival New York Yankees, who were thought to be in a rebuilding stage, have been led by their youth movement of slugging catcher, Gary Sanchez and rookie sensation, Aaron Judge, to what many believe to be an overachieving season. The league that was mostly known for its aging stars has been transformed to the league of future stars, and no one team symbolizes that more than the Houston Astros. AL MVP candidates Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa are the catalysts of the most potent offense in the MLB and they look to lead their team to their first World Series title in franchise history.

With the conclusion of the League Division Series’, the 2017 MLB Postseason has its final four teams. The ALCS will see an encounter between two offensive juggernauts in the Houston Astros and New York Yankees. Although both teams are loaded with young talent, only one was expected to be in this position. The Yankees have overachieved in the eyes of many critics as they were anticipating this team to reach this level in a year or two down the road. Overcoming a 0-2 deficit in the ALDS, they won three straight games with tremendous pitching efforts from Masahiro Tanaka, Luis Severino, and CC Sabathia; and were provided with the offensive heroics from shortstop Didi Gregorius. The Astros on the other hand are have been building for this moment for almost ten years. Their accumulation of high draft picks has resulted in the best core of young talent in the game today. Featuring a pitching staff that now has two former AL Cy Young winner, the Astros bolstered their rotation by acquiring Justin Verlander at the July trade deadline to team up with Dallas Keuchel. Now these two franchises, one seeking their first World Series title while the other is on the chase for number 28, will battle for a chance to represent the American League in the Fall Classic.

The National League saw the Los Angeles Dodgers sweep the Arizona Diamondbacks in relatively easy fashion. The Dodgers did not have to put much stress on their bullpen with their pitchers being effective and efficient eating up innings. Yasiel Puig was the facilitator of enthusiasm for LA providing timely hits as well as passion every time he steps on the field. Justin Turner did most of the damage for the Dodgers at the dish leading the team in hits, RBI’s and total bases during the three game series. The other series saw the reigning World Series Champion Chicago Cubs take on the eager Washington Nationals. The Cubs recent postseason success has given them plenty of confidence, however the Nationals have had an abysmal postseason track record. The teams traded wins with the Cubs taking the series in 5. The NLCS will pit the two biggest clubs in the National League, in terms of All-Stars, against each other and will undoubtedly become a series for the ages.

During the ALCS, the home team won every game with the series going seven games. Each game was essentially controlled by one team for the exception of game 4 where the Yankees came back from a 4-0 deficit. The Astros and Yankees starting pitchers were tremendous throughout the series, so it just took one or two mistakes that would end up being the deciding factor in each game. With Justin Verlander winning the ALCS MVP award for his absolutely dominating performances. In two starts he totaled 21 strikeouts, two walks a 0.56 ERA in 16 innings of work. The Astros became the first team in MLB history to the pennant in both the American and National League.

The Los Angeles Dodgers easily dispatched of the reigning World Series champion Chicago Cubs in five games in the NLCS. The Dodgers have been steamrolling their opposition this postseason with an offense that is putting up outstanding numbers. Their starting pitching along with their bullpen shutdown the Cubs potent offense and did not allow them to get anything going at the plate. To make their NLCS performance even more impressive, they did all of it without their All-Star shortstop Corey Seager, who was out with a back injury but hopes to play in the World Series.

The 2017 World Series will be a matchup between undoubtedly the two best teams in the MLB. The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros have been on a torrid pace the entire season and will now battle it out for baseball supremacy in the Fall Classic. These two clubs are built similarly, both have a good mix of young talent and tested veterans. There will be no shortage of big names in this series with LA featuring up and coming talent in Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger, do-it-all utility man Chris Taylor and the talented arms of Clayton Kershaw and Kenley Jansen. While the Astros young core of Carlos Correa, George Springer and Alex Bregman are joined by the likes of Jose Altuve, and former Cy Young winners Justin Verlander and Dallas Keuchel. Houston is looking to make history by winning their first World Series title while Los Angeles is poised to win their 7th World Series and first since 1988.

The Cleveland Cavaliers could not overcome a 3 games to 1 deficit this past season as the Golden State Warriors won the 2016-2017 NBA Finals in 5 games. Winning their second title in three years, the Warriors don’t seem to have any plans of slowing down and are poised for another championship run in the 2017-2018 season. LeBron James and company look to retool as they added key free agents like Dwyane Wade and acquired Isaiah Thomas in a trade with the Boston Celtics for Kyrie Irving. This offseason was nothing if not exciting, with many unexpected moves and a lot of moving parts, the league will look very different this season. Headlined by a star-studded 2017 rookie class with players like Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball, the influx of talent this year has been exceptional. The Eastern Conference saw the Cavs adding new pieces but the Boston Celtics made major moves as well by signing Gordon Hayward and drafted Jayson Tatum. The rebuilding 76ers are looking to evolve into contenders in a weaker Eastern Conference with Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons leading the way. As the Eastern Conference is searching for contenders to battle with Cleveland and Boston, the Western Conference has the opposite problem, too much talent. Coming off a record-breaking season, Russell Westbook has been joined by Carmelo Anthony and Paul George to become one of the most lethal scoring teams in the league. Chris Paul joined James Harden in Houston forming a backcourt that rivals that of the Warriors. The San Antonio Spurs are still the model of consistency and remain a contender for the Western Conference crown. The team out west that are looking to take the next step are the Minnesota Timberwolves who have a talented young team with superstars Karl Anthony-Towns and Andrew Wiggins and newly acquired Jimmy Butler. However, the NBA Champs still have the reigning league MVP and the Finals MVP in Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant. With fellow All-Star players Klay Thompson and Draymond Green rounding out the core-four for this franchise that looks to cement their name in history and become the new dynasty on the NBA.

The 2017 Stanley Cup Champions Pittsburgh Penguins were the first team to win back-to-back Stanley Cup since the ’97-’98 Detroit Red Wings. Now, Sidney Crosby, Evegeni Malkin and Matt Murray and the Pens look to make it a three-peat and become the first NHL franchise since the 1980-’83 Islanders won four consecutive Cups. With the lack of Canadian franchises producing in the playoffs, the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs look to rise back to prominence as both teams improved greatly last season and look to build on that momentum. Both clubs are led by young superstars in Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews who are ready to make deep playoff runs this season. The rookie movement in the past few seasons has been impressive and this season is no different. The top two picks of this year’s draft will make their NHL debuts in Nico Hischier and Nolan Patrick. This youth movement has been taking form over the past few seasons with other standouts like Nathan MacKinnon, Jack Eichel, Johnny Gaudreau, and Mark Scheifele just to name a few. Not to be outdone by the newcomers, established NHL stars are still looking to help their teams lift Lord Stanley’s Cup. Favorites this year in the Eastern Conference are the usual suspects like a healthy Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lighting along with the Washington Capitals and Alex Ovechkin. In the Western Conference, one of the contenders, the Anaheim Ducks are hoping that Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf could carry team while they deal with early season injuries. The Chicago Blackhawks led by Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews look to bounce back from a disappointing year last season. For the first time in 17 seasons, the NHL has added an expansion team in the Vegas Golden Knights.
