Historical Emmitt Smith Milestones
It's unlikely that a running back as talented as Emmitt Smith will ever step foot on a football field again. From beginning to end, Dallas Cowboys superstar Emmitt Smith has put together one of the greatest careers in football history. Florida born Smith made the high school game look easy, rushing for over 8,800 yards at Pensacola's Escambia High School. After being named the USA Today's and Parade magazine "High School Player of the Year", Smith went on to play his college ball for his home state University of Florida Gators. During his time in The Swamp, Emmitt Smith was named First-Team All-SEC from 1987-1989 and was a unanimous selection for NCAA First-Team All-American during his senior year. Smith dropped all the way to 17th pick in the 1st round of the 1990 NFL Draft where he was finally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas can thank all 16 teams that passed on the UF running back because what they found at pick 17 was one of the biggest steals in NFL Draft history. Smith wasn't the flashy style running back that co-90's superstar Barry Sanders was, but he was known for his consistency and ability to run for yards after contact. Emmitt Smith was arguably the best player for the best team of the decade. During his tenure on the field for the Dallas Cowboys, Smith led his team to three Super Bowl championships. Emmitt was at the forefront of their electrifying offense composed of quarterback Troy Aikman, receiver Michael Irvin, and, of course, Smith leading the backfield. In 1993, Emmitt Smith put together one of football's greatest individual seasons, winning the regular season MVP, Super Bowl MVP, Super Bowl Championship, and led the NFL in rushing yards. Smith made eight Pro Bowl appearances from 1990 to 1999 and was named First-Team All-Pro for four straight years from 1992-1995. Emmitt Smith holds an impressive list of career accomplishments, headlined by being the all-time NFL leader in rushing attempts, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns. The 5'9" Florida running back was named by the Pro Football Hall of Fame as the first-team running back for the All-1990's Team.
Smith's career was honored at the highest level in 2010, when he was enshrined as a Pro Football Hall of Famer. Emmitt Smith joined not only the best in the sport of football, but also the likes of Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky as the most dominant athletes in his sports during the 1990's. With one of football's most decorated careers, Smith left his mark on the National Football League as one of the greatest running backs and all-around winners to ever play the game. Look no further than the Hall of Famer who has set the standard for all NFL running backs and add the value of Emmitt Smith memorabilia to your collection.
