Historical Mickey Mantle Milestones
Mickey Mantle has gone down in history for being one of the greatest players for one of the most iconic franchises in all of professional sports. The New York Yankees great, often referred to as "The Mick" or "The Commerce Comet", was one of the most talented and beloved baseball players to ever wear pinstripes. Mantle was offered a minor league contract by the Yanks in 1949 and made his Major League debut in 1951. The rest was history. Mantle was promptly named to his first of 20 MLB All-Star Game appearances in 1952 and began what was soon to be one of the finest careers the sport of baseball has ever seen. The Yankee legend continued to dominate the 1950's and 60's as he won seven World Series championships with New York. Very few players in the history of the game have accomplished the feat of winning a Triple Crown, but Mantle was one of these select few. In 1956, Mickey Mantle did the unthinkable by leading the American League in hits, home runs, and RBIs, becoming the first Yankees winner of the coveted Triple Crown since Lou Gehrig in 1934. That season, Mantle also won his first of three Most Valuable Player awards, while leading New York to the franchise's 16th World Series championship. Mantle's play at the plate was nothing short of spectacular during his storied 18 year career, as he led the AL in homeruns four times and runs five times. To complete his statistically remarkable career, Mickey Mantle recorded over 2,400 hits for a .298 batting average throughout his entire time in the MLB. Before his retirement, the Mick would own the World Series' all-time records for his 18 home runs, 40 runs batted in, and 42 runs scored. All in all, Mantle would be the centerpiece of a terrifying Yankees offense that led the Bombers to seven World Series Championships during Mantle's 18-year big league career.
The Mick's career ended in 1968 and his No. 7 was retired almost immediately, engraving itself in the rich history of Yankee baseball. Mantle was named to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974 in a class that included fellow baseball legends Jim Bottomley and Whitey Ford. Mickey Mantle's career is one that will be unheralded in Yankee history and lives on in the minds of baseball fans forever. Fellow Yankee legend, Joe DiMaggio, has even referred to the young Mickey Mantle "the greatest prospect I can remember." One of the most sought-after autographs in existence, authentic signed Mickey Mantle memorabilia is some of the most in-demand and valuable on the market and an absolute must for all baseball collections.
