Historical Milestones
Steven Stamkos’ professional hockey career began when he was drafted in the 2006 OHL Entry Draft to the Ontario Hockey League. In that draft, Stamkos was drafted first overall to the Sarnia Sting. Steven spent two years with Sting and scored 100 goals over that time. After his two seasons in the OHL, Stamkos entered the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and again was selected first overall this time to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ever since coming to the Lightning, Stamkos has been nothing but one of the top goal-scorers in the National Hockey League.
Stamkos won the Maurice Richard Trophy twice, in 2010 and 2012, for leading the league in scoring. He has also been named an NHL Second Team All-Star twice in 2011, 2012 and to the NHL All-Star game five times. Stamkos is now the captain of the Lightning and leads Tampa as one of the premier Centre’s in the league.
