About New Orleans Saints Autographed Memorabilia & Collectibles

Historical Milestones

The black and gold uniforms of this NFL franchise have become synonymous with their city. The New Orleans Saints were founded in 1967 and struggled for decades to put a winning team on the field. It would not be until the 1987 NFL season that franchise would qualify for their first playoff appearance. During the 2009 NFL season, they did manage to capture their first championship, winning Super Bowl XLIV. This team calls the Mercedes-Benz Superdome their home and started playing there all the way back in 1975.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the Saints had difficulty putting a winning team on the field. They did manage to draft Archie Manning with the second overall pick of the 1971 NFL Draft, becoming one of the few bright spots for the franchise over the decade. After Manning left the team continued to struggle during the 1980s until their fortune turned around in 1987 when Head Coach Jim Mora led them to their first-ever playoff appearance and winning record. They remained competitive during the early 1990s qualifying for the playoffs multiple times and at the 1999 NFL Draft, they found themselves at the number five spot, selecting a Heisman Trophy-winning running back out of the University of Texas named Ricky Williams. The franchise and community were devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, leaving New Orleans in ruins. Following the 2005 NFL season, Sean Payton was hired to become their head coach and Drew Brees became their quarterback. This combination has resulted in the most successful run in the franchise’s history, with them winning the only Super Bowl title in franchise history at Super Bowl XLIV. Brees was named Super Bowl MVP, cementing his legacy as a New Orleans sports icon.
