Historical Milestones
Dale Murphy is one of the greatest players in the storied history of Major League Baseball. Murphy was drafted by the Atlanta Braves with the fifth overall pick of the 1974 MLB Draft and played on the team’s big league roster from 1976 until midway through the 1990 season when he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. He played for the Phillies through the 1992 season and for the Colorado Rockies in 1993 which was his last season in the majors. At the conclusion of his career, this legend had 398 home runs, 1,266 RBIs, and 1,197 runs scored, cementing his place among the very best of all-time.
Murphy was a seven-time All-Star and led the National League in home runs and RBIs twice each during his career. He also won five Gold Glove Awards, four Silver Slugger Awards, and was named the NL Player of the Month six times over the course of his playing career. In addition to those achievements, he was a recipient of the NL MVP Award in 1982 and 1983. This slugger will forever be remembered as one of the most intimidating figures to ever step into a batter’s box.
