Historical Milestones
Corey Kluber has been one of the best right-handed pitchers in baseball as the ace of the Cleveland Indians fantastic pitching staff. Kluber established himself with the Indians in 2013 as a starting pitcher as he showed flashes of the brilliant pitcher he would one day become. At the end of that season, Kluber became the first pitcher since Randy Johnson to strike out 14 batters in two straight starts. For his season totals, Kluber had a record of 11-5 with a very respectable 3.85 ERA.
The next season Kluber became the clear ace of the Indians as he dominated in the 2014 season. The righty went 18-9 and had a 2.44 ERA which was third best in the AL. His 18 wins were tied for the league lead and he was two strikeouts shy of leading the league with 269. After the season Kluber was voted the American League Cy Young. This was the first of two Cy Young awards as Kluber won the award again in 2017.
The 2016 season was the first for Kluber where he was selected to the All-Star team. With him leading the pitching staff, the Indians went all the way to Game 7 of the 2016 World Series. They ultimately lost that game, but for Kluber, it did not set him back at all as he led the league in ERA and wins in 2017 on his way to his second All-Star appearance as well as his second Cy Young.
