She made her first appearance with the senior team in 2010, and later year scored an important goal four minutes into added time against Italy to secure the final spot in the 2011 Women's World Cup with a 1-0 victory. Morgan got her first taste of the World Cup that next year, coming in second place despite recording a goal and an assist in the final. She tasted more success in 2012, a year in which she led the US with 28 goals, 9 multi-goal matches, 21 assists, and 77 points and was awarded the 2012 US Soccer Female Athlete of the Year. In the Olympic semifinals, Morgan scored the game winning goal against Canada in the 123rd minute, before recording an assist in the final to help the US claim the gold medal. In the 2015 Women's World Cup, she and the USWNT were able to avenge their 2011 World Cup loss and defeated Japan 5-2 to win the first Women's World Cup for the United States since 1999. The 2019 Women's World Cup was another shining moment for Morgan, in which she tied a World Cup record five goals (as well as three assists) in a record 13-0 victory in the opening match, and also scored an iconic game-winning goal in the semifinals before the US would go on to win their second consecutive World Cup.
