Pete Alonso is a first baseman in the MLB that is currently playing for the New York Mets. Alonso grew up in Florida and ended up playing college baseball at the University of Florida. Alonso spent three years as a member of the Florida Gators, hitting .316 with 23 home runs and 124 RBI in 157 career games. After his collegiate career, Alonso was drafted by the New York Mets with the 64th overall pick in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

After making his way through the lower levels of the Mets farm system, Alonso came into the 2018 season as New York’s fourth-best prospect. That year Alonso tore up the minors, hitting .285 with 36 home runs and 124 RBI playing primarily at the Mets Double-A and Triple-A affiliates. After he did not receive a promotion at the end of the 2018 season, Alonso was determined to make the Mets Opening Day roster in 2019. Alonso ended up having an incredible Spring Training for the Mets in 2019 and earned his job on the major league roster as their starting first baseman. Alonso has quickly become the Mets most dominant power hitter and is set to be one of the best sluggers in baseball for years to come. In his first season, Alonso crushed 30 home runs before the All-Star break, setting a Mets franchise record for most homers before the mid-summer classic, and tying Aaron Judge for second most all-time for a rookie before the All-Star Game. He also set a National League rookie record with his 68 first-half RBI. Alonso would also go on to win the 2019 Home Run Derby by defeating Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the final round.
