Ozzie Smith is a Major League Baseball legend. This former St. Louis Cardinals shortstop is possibly the greatest fielder to ever play the position. Ozzie was so magical with the glove out at shortstop that he was nicknamed “The Wizard”. Smith’s big league career spanned from 1978-1996 beginning with being drafted by the San Diego Padres and then traded to the St. Louis Cardinals. Ozzie was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002 on the first ballot.

While playing in the MLB, Ozzie Smith was selected to 15 All-Star Teams. Smith has the record for most gold glove awards by a shortstop with 13 to go along with the 1987 Silver Slugger Award. Smith was a part of the 1982 Cardinals team that won the World Series title by defeating the Milwaukee Brewers in seven games. In 1985 Smith helped lead the Cardinals to another National League Pennant winning the NLCS MVP Award before losing to the Kansas City Royals in seven games in the World Series. At the conclusion of his Hall of Fame career, the Cardinals retired his No. 1 jersey.
