The Arizona Coyotes, based out of Glendale, Arizona, are members of the NHL’s Pacific Division in the Western Conference. Founded in 1971 as the Winnipeg Jets in the World Hockey Association, the Coyotes were absorbed into the NHL in 1979 and renamed and relocated in 1996 to become the Phoenix Coyotes; a name change in 2014 led to the current day name. Since 2003 the Coyotes have played their home games at the Gila River Arena.
Once the most successful team in the now extinct World Hockey Association, the transformation of the Jets to the Coyotes has been one of great trial, triumph and success. Though they have yet to bring home a Presidents Cup or Stanley Cup Trophy, the Coyotes continue to improve on their seasons each year and remain a valid contender in Playoff contention. Over the years some of the greatest players have passed through the Coyotes doors, including Jeremy Roenick, Nikolai Khabibulim and Shane Doan.
