The Phoenix Suns are an NBA team that plays in the Western Conference of the NBA. They are the only team that is part of the Pacific Division that is not based in California. Ever since 1992, the Suns have played their home games at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. The Suns came into the league as an expansion team in 1968 and would win the Western Conference for the first time just eight years later in 1976. That improbable run by the Suns that year had them nicknamed the “Sunderella Suns” for their “Cinderella” season as the franchise had only made the playoffs once prior to that season and went 42-40 in the regular season. Led by that season's Rookie of the Year, Alvan Adams and Paul Westphal the Suns went all the way to NBA Finals, where they were ultimately defeated by John Havlicek’s Boston Celtics in six games.

Maybe the best season in franchise history for the Suns was in the 1992-93 NBA season. Prior to that year, Phoenix added Charles Barkley in free agency and he led the team to a 62-20 record which was the best in the NBA. Barkley won his only MVP that year and took the Suns to their second NBA Finals when they won the Western Conference. The Suns ultimately lost to Michael Jordan and the Bulls in six games. Their 62-20 regular season record is still the best in franchise history for the Suns, which has only been tied once in the 2004-05 season when Steve Nash won his first of two back-to-back MVPs.
