Historical Milestones
The Chicago Bulls franchise shaped the future of basketball forever. This historic franchise was founded in 1966 and they compete in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. Over the course of the Bulls’ history, they have won nine division titles and six NBA Championships. The six NBA titles won by the Bulls occurred in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998, becoming one of the greatest dynasties in sports history along the way.
In their early years Jerry Sloan emerged as one of the franchise’s first star players. Sloan was a two-time All-Star who was selected to the NBA All-Defensive First-Team four times during his career. During the 1970s the Bulls had other stars suit up for the organization including Artis Gilmore and two-time NBA All-Star Reggie Theus. The franchise and sports history would change forever at the 1984 NBA Draft when they selected Michael Jordan with the third overall pick out of the University of North Carolina. Jordan would lead the Bulls to six NBA Championships, being named the NBA Finals MVP in all of them. This superstar is widely regarded as the best basketball player to have ever lived and his legacy will live on forever. While winning those titles Jordan had help from his teammates including superstars Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Steve Kerr, and Ron Harper. This group of players was led by the legendary head coach Phil Jackson who is considered to be one of the greatest coaches in sports history winning 11 NBA Championships between his stints with the Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers. After Jordan left the franchise it took time to rebuild but in 2008 they selected Derrick Rose with the first overall pick of the NBA Draft and they appeared to be back on their way to title contention. After winning an NBA MVP Award in 2011 injuries derailed Rose’s career and now they have moved in a new direction under the leadership of Head Coach Fred Hoiberg.
