    Historical Milestones

Wade Boggs came into the major leagues with the Red Sox in 1982 and was immediately the best hitter for average in the American League. In his rookie season, Boggs hit .349 which would have won him a batting title, but he fell 121 at-bats short of the required 502. Between 1983 and 1988, Boggs hit over .357 in one season and won five batting titles. Boggs also had 200 hits or more in each of those seasons and accomplished that feat in 1989 as well. During his 11 seasons in Boston, Boggs hit .338 and won six Silver Slugger awards. He also holds the record for batting average at Fenway Park with an average of .369.

Prior to the 1993 season, Boggs left the Red Sox and signed with their archrival the New York Yankees. He spent five seasons in New York and added two more Silver Slugger awards to his collection. Boggs was also awarded for his defense in the Bronx, winning two Gold Gloves for his play at third base. In 1996, Boggs helped lead the Yankees to their first World Series title in 18 years and was famously seen riding an NYPD horse around the stadium following their series-clinching game win in Game 6.

Boggs spent the last two seasons of his career with the expansion franchise, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
