About Washington Redskins Autographed Memorabilia & Collectibles

Historical Milestones

The Washington Redskins are an American football team in the NFL that is a member of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the East division. The Redskins play their home games at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland but began as the Boston Braves in 1932 before they moved to Washington D.C. in 1937.

The Redskins had two separate decades throughout their history where they were great. From 1936 through 1945, the Redskins won the NFL East division six times and went on to win the NFL Championship in 1937 and 1942. The next great decade came from 1982 to 1991. Some of the best teams that the Redskins had such as the 1982 team that won Super Bowl XVII, were led by the great Redskins’ quarterback Joe Theismann. Theismann won the MVP in 1983 and would have gone on to have an even better career if it was not ended early in 1985. Theismann was involved in a play that became known as, “The Hit That No One Who Saw It Can Ever Forget" by The Washington Post, when the Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor crushed him on a sack from his blindside, creating a compound fracture of his leg that would end his career. Despite losing their franchise quarterback, the Redskins were such a great football team that would still win Super Bowls XXII and XXVI in 1987 and 1991. Quarterback Doug Williams replaced Theismann and would win the Super Bowl XXII MVP for leading his team to victory. All three of those Super Bowl winning teams were led by Hall of Fame head coach Joe Gibbs.
