Skiing became popular worldwide in the last two decades of 19th century and this started from Europe. After that Switzerland formed first ski club in the year 1863. A Norwegian immigrant to USA Anders Haugen participated on Winter Olympic Games in the year 1924 and became fourth in the competition due to an error in calculation. In the 50th anniversary celebration a recalculation was done and Haugen was found as the real bronze medalist instead of Thorleif Haug. In the Winter Olympic Games of year 1980 Phil Mahre won gold medal and Cindy Nelson won silver medal. The year 2006 is memorable for US Ski Team as Julia Mancuso won gold medal in giant slalom and Ted Ligety won gold medal in combined.
