New majority owner Stuart Sternberg had made some pretty big changes in the management and hoped that his would mark as the start of a new great season in 2006. And it did because in this year the Tampa Bay Devil Rays got involved in two very unusual triple plays. Their first game was against the Kansas City Royals and the second against Seattle Mariners
where they had performed an elaborate 2-6-2 triple play with the ball never even touching the bat. This was something that the baseball fans had never seen before. So by the end they had secured a winning record and that too at home with a 41-40. The off season also had several additions including the winning of the rights of a Japanese player and signed him on. Again this team played a series at ‘The Ballpark’ and was tipped to go against the Texas Rangers
. The Tampa Bay Devils Ray managed to sweep their opponents, win the game hands down and get the series under their belt.
This meant that the team had become the perfect team with players that were just right. Only by the end of the year did some more changes occur including the Tampa Bay Devil Rays becoming the Tampa Bay Rays team. It also marked the coming in of new players like Jason Bartlett and Matt Garza. It is possible to get great mementoes of these turn of events with a Matt Garza Rookie Autographed 2006 Game Used Glove.
