They were an American professional basketball team that only existed from the season of 1946 up to the period of 1963. The Syracuse Nationals were part of the National Basketball League and National Basketball Association. Today, the team is known to many as the Philadelphia 76ers and they are said to be the oldest continued franchise. The team originally started in Syracuse, New York in the season of 1939 as the Syracuse Reds. That time, the team is an independent professional team. They then joined the National Basketball League in 1946 as the Syracuse Nationals. They were afterward one of seven NBL teams that merged with the Basketball Association of American to form the NBA in 1949. The team was owned by Danny Biasone, he is an Italian immigrant. The first arena of the team where they played at was in the Syracuse Armory Building. They played from 1946 to 1948.
