Historical Milestones
The St. Louis Blues are an NHL team that plays in the Central Division in the Western Conference. The Blues play their home games in the Scottrade Center in downtown St. Louis. The team entered the league as part of the 1967 NHL Expansion in which the six teams in the league doubled to twelve.
The Blues came into the league by storm making the Stanley Cup Finals three straight years in 1968, 1969 and 1970. They did not win any of those finals and have not been back since 1970 making them the oldest active NHL team to never win the Stanley Cup.
While they did not have a lot of success in the playoffs, the Blues had a long streak of 24 years from 1980 to 2004 where they made the playoffs every single year. In the middle of that playoff streak, the Blues had an era defined by their best player Brett Hull. Hull’s father was the NHL Legend Bobby Hull, but Brett was spectacular with the Blues. Between the 1989-90 and the 1992-93 seasons, Hull scored over 100 points every year. Although the Blues have not won the Stanley Cup, they have had spectacular players that have played with them throughout the franchise’s history. None great than “The Great One” Wayne Gretzky who finished his last season in the NHL with the Blues. Other great players include, but are not limited to, guys like Doug Weight, Jamie Langenbrunner, Doug Gilmour and Bernie Federko.
After the 24-year playoff streak ended, the Blues went through a stretch of a rebuild. Now with Jake Allen, Vladimir Tarasenko and Alex Pietrangelo the Blues are on the upswing once again. The Blues roster also currently features Patrik Berglund, Jay Bouwmeester, Carl Gunnarsson and Robby Fabbri.
