They are the varsity sports teams of the St. John’s University. There are 17 varsity sports teams that encompass the St. John’s Red Storm and they are taking part in the Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. On the other hand, they are jockeying for position as well in the Big East Conference. The first nickname that the university used for their varsity teams is St. John’s Redmen, not until the season of 1994, that the team’s name was changed to St. John’s Red Storm. It was changed when there is said to be a mounting pressure on colleges and universities. The team also has their mascot that was introduced to the public on September 18, 2009. Their mascot is named as The Thunderbird. The St. John’s Red Storm also possesses their fight song that is entitled as the Fight For Old St. Johns and the colors that are representing them are red and white.
