Tyreke Jamir Evans or simply Tyreke Evans
is a guard who wears the jersey number 13. He’s nicknamed “Reke” or “Too Easy”. He wears a size 15 shoe size. He is only 20 years old and loves macaroni and cheese. His leisure time away from basketball is sleeping. He cites the movie “Love and basketball” as his favorite.
He grew up in Chester, Pennsylvania raised by his elder brothers. He went to the American Christian Academy and by his second year he was being compared to Tracy McGrady. During his senior year he was averaging 32.1 ppg and as a result he was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the McDonald’s All-American Game, helping the East win in a 107-102 victory over the West. He had 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in that game.
In college, he went to the University of Memphis. From playing small forward in high school he shifted to playing guard in college. He had a difficulty with this until he was made starting point guard by his coach John Calipari. During the game, he was able to make 14 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. The team had a continuous winning streak until finally losing once to the Missouri Tigers in the NCAA Tournament.
In 2009, while still an undergraduate student at Memphis, he was selected in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings as its fourth overall pick and signed a multi-year contract with the team.
According to sources, he was named NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month for games he played from the start of the season until November and won it again in January.
In NBA history, he is the fourth player to average at least 20 points in a game, like Oscar Robertson
, Michael Jordan
and LeBron James
. He was consequently awarded the 2009/2010 NBA rookie of the Year Award.
