Founded in 1933 the Philadelphia Eagles have long been a staple in the National Football League. The Eagles have called multiple stadiums their home during their existence and have played at Lincoln Financial Field since 2003. As a member of the NFC East Division they are known for their intense rivalries with the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and the Washington Reskins. Over the course of their history they have won three NFL Championships and in 2018 they claimed their first Super Bowl title at Super Bowl LII.
Many iconic players have worn the green and white jerseys of the Philadelphia Eagles throughout the decades. They became a NFL powerhouse in the late-1940’s claiming NFL Championships for the 1948 and 1949 seasons. Hall of Famer Steve Van Buren led those squads being named to the First-Team All-Pro five times during his career. This great running back was also selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame All-1940’s Team and led the league in rushing yards in four different seasons. By 1960 the Eagles had won yet another NFL Championship this time being led by Hall of Fame quarterback Norm Van Brocklin and Chuck Bednarik. Bednarik is regarded among the greatest players in NFL history, playing both offense and defense, he was a linebacker and center during his career. At the conclusion of his career he had been named to multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro Teams and was named to the NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team. The franchise would return to the Super Bowl again in January of 1981 only to lose to the Oakland Raiders 27-10, they did manage to defeat the Cowboys though in the NFC Championship that season on their way to a Super Bowl defeat. It would not be until the 2004 NFL Season when they would have their next Super Bowl appearance, losing to the New England Patriots 24-21. Throughout the 2000’s Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb and Head Coach Andy Reid led them to numerous successful seasons, including five NFC Championship Games. In 2017 they had the best regular season record in the NFC with Carson Wentz as their starting quarterback until tearing his ACL in December. Nick Foles would go on to lead the Eagles to playoff victories against the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings, culminating in a memorable 41-33 win over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots at Super Bowl LII.
