The Los Angeles Angels are an MLB team in the American League West division. Since 1966 the Angels have played their home games at Angel Stadium which is located in Anaheim, California. The franchise entered the league as an expansion team in 1961.
The Angels made the playoffs for the first time in 1979 with great players like pitcher Nolan Ryan and hitters Rod Carew, Bert Campaneris and Don Baylor. Baylor actually became the first designated hitter to ever win the MVP that year. They ended up losing three games to one in the American League Championship series Then in 1982 the Angels added Reggie Jackson to the same core team of 1979 and came one game away from their first World Series but ultimately lost again. Including 1979 and 1982, the Angels have won the West division nine times across their history but have never won the pennant in any of those seasons. The only time the Angels won the pennant and went to the World Series was in 2002 when they went as a Wild Card team. The Angels upset the Yankees in the division series ending a four-year streak of pennants for New York. After beating the Minnesota Twins in the Championship Series, the Angels went on to play Barry Bonds and the Giants in the World Series. With starting pitcher John Lackey being the first rookie to win a Game 7 of the World Series and rookie reliever Francisco Rodriguez won a record five postseason games, the Angels won the 2002 World Series.
Los Angeles has a promising starting lineup led by the best player in baseball in Mike Trout, and with other players like Justin Upton, and Albert Pujols making them a real contender for the postseason.
