The Indianapolis Colts compete in the National Football League’s AFC South Division and are based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. They were members of the NFL from their founding and were one of the three teams to switch to the AFC following the 1970 merger. Since moving from Baltimore to Indianapolis in the 1980’s the Colts have played their home games at RCA Dome before their state-of-the-art Lucas Oil Stadium was opened in 2008.
Originally the Baltimore Colts from 1953-1983, the team advanced to the postseason ten times and won two NFL Championship games in 1958 and 1959. While still in Baltimore, the team also went to the Super Bowl two times, once losing to Joe Namath and the New York Jets and the other time defeating the Dallas Cowboys. Owner Robert Irsay infamous moved the team in the middle of the night in 1984 from Baltimore to Indianapolis. In the Hoosier state, the Colts have since appeared in the playoffs 14 times, won two AFC championships and defeated the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI. Having been extremely successful throughout their time in the NFL, it's no surprise that the Colts have had many members in the Hall of Fame including Johnny Unitas, Marshall Faulk, and Richard Dent. Indianapolis has also been home to arguably the greatest quarterback of all-time in Peyton Manning and one of the NFL's best up and coming players in Andrew Luck.
