Historical Cleveland Cavaliers Milestones
Founded in 1970 the Cleveland Cavaliers have been a staple in the Eastern Conference since their inception. They call Quicken Loans Arena home which is in downtown Cleveland. The Cavaliers play in the Eastern Conference’s Central Division and since the arrival of LeBron James have been the dominant force in the division. In 2016 the Cavaliers won the franchise’s first NBA title defeating the Golden State Warriors by coming back from a 3-1 deficit.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have played in the NBA since 1970 and have emerged as one of the league’s most dominant teams after drafting LeBron James with the 1st overall pick of the 2003 NBA Draft. Prior to drafting James, the Cavs best season came in 1976 when they reached the Eastern Conference Finals, losing to the Celtics in six games. Bill Fitch was the Cavs head coach from 1970-1979 winning the NBA’s Coach of the Year Award in 1976. In 2007 LeBron James led the Cavaliers to their first ever Eastern Conference title, only to be swept by the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. In recent years the Cavaliers have been one of the league’s premier franchises. The Cavaliers have won Conference titles in consecutive years and won the 2016 NBA Finals over the Golden State Warriors. NBA All-Stars such as LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love have all worn the Cavaliers jersey in recent years and played an important role in their success.
The Cavaliers have been one of the most successful sports franchises in the 2010’s.
