About Super Bowl XXXVIII (38)
Marking the Carolina Panthers’ first Super Bowl appearance and the New England Patriots’ run at a second title in three years, Super Bowl XXXVIII took place February 1, 2004 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. Becoming the most-watched Super Bowl at the time, Super Bowl 38 was widely considered one of the most well-played and thrilling Super Bowls in NFL history. Despite scoreless first and third quarters, Super Bowl XXXVIII put up a combined 868 yards and 61 points. The game eventually came down to a fair 41-yard field goal with four seconds left on the clock for New England Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri, a field goal which brought the final score to a 32-29 New England Patriots win.
