Vince Young was one of the most dynamic and talented quarterbacks to ever play college football. Young went to the University of Texas to play for the legendary head coach, Mack Brown. Vince Young entered school as a redshirt freshman in 2003 but quickly earned playing time due to his ability to run the football. In his sophomore season, Young started every game and led his team to an 11-1 record along with a top 5 final ranking. Texas would play in the Rose Bowl against the University of Michigan that year and came out victorious.
Coming into his junior season, Texas was ranked #2 in the preseason and they never fell below that all year as Young led them to an undefeated season. After winning the Big 12 Championship they faced off against the USC Trojans in the National Championship Rose Bowl game. The Trojans were being talked about as maybe the greatest college football team of all-time as they won 34-straight games and had two Heisman Trophy winners in Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush. Young turned in one of the greatest performance in the history of college football as he rushed for 200 yards, threw for 267, and scored three rushing touchdowns. With 19 seconds left in the game, the Longhorns had the ball on the nine-yard line on a 4th down and Young took the ball himself for a touchdown that put his team up 41-38. Young was, of course, named the Rose Bowl MVP following the game.
For Young’s historic junior season, he had 3,036 passing yards and 1,050 rushing yards with 38 combined touchdowns. Young won the Manning Award, Maxwell Award, Davey O’Brien Award and was an All-American along with setting numerous records in his last season at Texas. Young was then drafted by the Tennessee Titans with the third overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, Young led the Titans to an 8-5 record as a starter with four of them being fourth quarter comebacks. Young was named the Rookie of the Year and went to his first of two Pro Bowls.
