Tomas Tatar is a professional Slovak ice hockey left wing. He had much success playing for the Slovak Extraliga prior to turning professional and being drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in 2009. During his time with the Slovak Extraliga, he recorded 50 goals and 39 assists in 46 games. Moving onto the senior Slovak elite Extraliga, he achieved seven goals and eight assists in 48 games.
His junior career showcased Tomas Tatar and the potential that would enable him to achieve success in the professional league. He was ultimately drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and was later assigned to the team’s affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, in the AHL. He immediately demonstrated much success in the NHL. During his rookie season, Tomas Tatar recorded 16 goals and 16 assists in 58 games, and he followed that with 24 goals and 33 assists in 70 games. In his third season as a professional, he became the Griffin’s leading scorer and in 2013 he earned the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy for MVP for his outstanding performance in the 2013 playoffs. After playing for various teams, his first full NHL season recorded Tatar with 39 points and the team was ranked second in goals. His awards include being names as the Second Star of the Week for two weeks and being tied for the leader in the league with five goals and two assists, scoring in four consecutive games.
