Pavel Datsyuk began his NHL with a great start for the Detroit Red Wings as he won the Stanley Cup in his rookie season in 2001-02. While Datsyuk was on the team, he did not get that much playing time as the length of the NHL season wore him down in his rookie year, but he did score three goals and assist on three in the Red Wings Stanley Cup run. In his second season, Datsyuk was paired with rookie Henrik Zetterberg and NHL legend Brett Hull to form the line that came to be known as “Two Kids and an Old Goat”.
In the 2007-08 season, Datsyuk had a career year leading the team in scoring with 97 points and in blocked shots. He also led the league with 144 takeaways and with his plus-minus of +41. Following the season, he was awarded the Frank J. Selke Trophy a league’s best forward. Datsyuk helped led the Red Wings to the Stanley Cups Finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins. In Game 6 of the series, he recorded two assists as the Red Wings won the game 3-2 to secure their 11th Stanley Cup victory in franchise history. Datsyuk spent his entire 14-year NHL career with the Red Wings before going back to play in the KHL and is one of the greatest players in the history of the NHL.
