Paul Molitor is a former Hall of Fame player and the current manager of the Minnesota Twins. Molitor debuted at the age of 21 years old in 1978 and was a great table setter for the Milwaukee Brewers instantly. Molitor stole 30 bases or more in each of his first three seasons in MLB while hitting for a high average and scoring plenty of runs. Molitor spent 15 seasons in Milwaukee and was part of a lot of winning teams along with fellow teammate and Hall of Famer Robin Yount. Molitor was an All-Star five times as a Brewer and earned two Silver Slugger Awards as well.
After his long career with Milwaukee, Molitor left the Brewers in free agency to sign with the Toronto Blue Jays. Molitor experienced a career-year of sorts in his first year with the Blue Jays in 1993. Molitor hit a career-high 22 home runs and eclipsed 100 RBI for the first time in his career with 111. He also added 22 stolen bases and scored 121 runs while hitting to an average of .332. Toronto played in the World Series that year against the Phillies and Molitor hit two doubles, two triples, and two home runs while hitting 12-for-24 (.500) to tie a record for the World Series for highest batting average. This incredible performance by Molitor led the Blue Jays to their second World Series victory, the first for Molitor, and the World Series MVP Award. Paul Molitor spent the 1993 season and two more in Toronto, all as a designated hitter, and then left the Blue Jays in free agency to sign for the Minnesota Twins to play a similar role. Molitor won a Silver Slugger awards for both the Blue Jays and the Twins to put his career total up to four while appearing in seven All-Star games. Following his retirement, Molitor remained with the Twins for three seasons as their bench coach. Molitor then spent years in their organizations for years as a minor league base running and fielding instructor. In 2014, Molitor rejoined the Twins coaching staff and then in 2015 he was named the team’s manager. The Twins made the playoffs in 2017 after they lost over 100 games the season prior becoming the first team in MLB history to do so. Molitor was awarded the 2017 Manager of the Year award for his efforts.
