Selected first overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Nathan MacKinnon is one of hockey’s best young centers. On October 2, 2013, MacKinnon became the youngest player to ever dress for the Colorado Avalanche at the age of 18. His first NHL record came later that season when Nathan became the youngest player to record back-to-back two-goal games. He would go on to make history for performing at such a young age when he passed Wayne Gretzky for the most consecutive game points scored at 18 years old when he went on a 13-game streak. Altogether in his rookie season, MacKinnon led all rookies in the NHL with 24 goals and 39 assists for a total of 63 points. For his stellar rookie season, he was award the NHL’s rookie of the year award, the Calder Memorial Trophy, as well as being select to the NHL’s All-Rookie Team.
MacKinnon has become a franchise player with the Avalanche and he signed his first big contract with the team in 2016 when he got a seven-year deal worth $44.1 million. Since signing the deal, MacKinnon has become an alternate captain for Colorado and has gone to his first two All-Star Games in 2017 and 2018.
