Historical Milestones
After a great collegiate career as the starting quarterback for Michigan State University, Kirk Cousins was drafted by the Redskins in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. The Redskins decision to draft Kirk was met with a lot of criticism as they traded multiple picks to move up to the second overall pick in the same draft to select another quarterback in Robert Griffin III. Cousins turned out to be the better quarterback of the two though as he took over the full-time starting duties in 2015 and turned in three great seasons for the Redskins.
In his three years as the starter for the Redskins, Cousins threw for over 4,000 yards in each campaign along with over 25 touchdowns. In 2016, he nearly had a 5,000-yard season as he had 4,917 yards and was rewarded with his first Pro-Bowl appearance for his performance. While he played very well for the Redskins, they allowed him to leave them in free agency after the 2017 season. In free agency, Cousins made NFL history as the first player to ever get a fully guaranteed deal when he signed his three-year contract with $84 million dollars with the Minnesota Vikings.
