Everyone knows that offense wins you games, but defense wins you championships, as was the case for the 1985 Chicago Bears. Although they had all-time greats like Walter Payton on the offensive side of the ball, Chicago rode their defense to the Super Bowl with legends like Mike Singletary and William Perry. Fast forward to 2018, and the Chicago Bears might have found the perfect replica of their championship winning side. Now in 2018, the biggest pillar in their quest for a ring is without a doubt star linebacker Khalil Mack, who was acquired from the Oakland Raiders in a blockbuster trade before the season began.
A University of Buffalo alum, Khalil Mack left college as the all-time NCAA leader in forced fumbles and is tied for most tackles for loss. After declaring for the 2014 NFL Draft, the Raiders selected Mack with the 5th overall pick and would go on to place third for the Defensive Player of the Year award. Throughout his time in Oakland, Mack became the first player in NFL history to make the AP All-Pro First Team in two different positions in the same year, and was also voted as the Defensive Player of the Year in 2016, and was named to three straight Pro Bowls. Prior to the 2018 NFL season, the Raiders traded Mack to the Chicago Bears amid contract disputes. Shortly after being traded, Mack agreed to a 6-year, $141 million contract which made him the highest-paid defender in the history of the NFL. Since making his move to the Windy City, Mack has continued to be one of the NFL’s best players and has turned the Bears into a Championship winning side.
Khalil Mack has the makings of an all-time great. Not only does he have the physical tools to dominate opposing offensive linemen, but he also has the quickness of a running back, making him virtually unblockable. Signed Khalil Mack memorabilia carries significant value, as he is undoubtedly one of the best defenders that have ever graced an NFL field.
