Together with Darryl Strawberry and Rocky Ledee, José Vizcaíno is one of the only three Major League Baseball players who have played for all four one- time New York teams, namely the New York Yankees, the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the San Francisco Giants. Vizcaíno’s birth name is José Luis Vizcaíno Pimental and was born on Tuesday, March 26, 1968 in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic. He made his debut when he was 21 years old when he entered the big leagues by playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers. This was on September 10, 1989. He finished in the top ten in hits thrice in his career; first was in 1993 when he was playing for the Chicago Cubs where he finished 9th in the National League, second in 1995 where he finished 5th, and in 1997 with the San Francisco Giants where he finished 10th place. Playing as a backup infielder for most of his career, Vizcaíno is best known for a hit he made on October 21, 2000 when he was playing for the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the World Series. He hit the game winning single in the 12th inning of the then longest game in the World Series history. Winning the Series for that year with his team adds another feather to his cap. He came close to repeating the same stint when he played for the Houston Astros against the Chicago White Sox. This was in Game 2 of the 2005 World Series. However his laudable feats for that game were in vain when Chicago’s Scott Podsednik homered in the bottom of the inning and thus overcoming the Astros on that game. He is still active in the sport, currently working as a Special Assistant of Baseball Operations for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
