Fred Funk is a professional golfer. He was born in Takoma Park, Maryland and attended the University of Maryland from which he graduated in 1980. He worked first as a golf coach in the university from 1982 to 1988 before deciding to enter the PGA Tour in 1989.
Starting from 1992, he was able to win a number of tours and although he wasn’t as popular as their other golf stars, he was ranked within the top 20 of the career money list. Funk won the Shell Houston Open in 1992 as well as the Ideon Classic at Pleasant Valley. In 1995, he won the Buick Challenge and the BC Open the year after. In 1998, Funk won the Deposit Guarantee Golf Classic.
After appearing in the US teams for the Presidents Cup in 2003 and 2005, and the Ryder Cup in 2004, Funk was able to win the Southern Farm Bureau Open Classic in 2004. In 2006, he made his first appearance in the 2006 US Senior Open and is still included in the Official World Golf Ranking’s top 50. He won The Players Championship in 2005 and then the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun in 2007.
