Drew Doughty is one of the best defensemen in the NHL and a key reason that the Kings have won two Stanley Cups in the last decade. Doughty was picked by the King's second overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft from the Ontario Hockey League, where he was voted the league’s best defenseman twice. As a rookie, Doughty made the All-Rookie team and was just 18 years old at the time of debut. By his second season, Doughty was already named a finalist for the Norris Trophy for the best defenseman after scoring 59 points, third-most amongst players at his position.
In the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Doughty led all defensemen with points scored with 16 in his 20 games played. Many felt that Doughty was the top player from either team in the Stanley Cup Finals against the New Jersey Devils. The Kings won that series in six games as Doughty helped lead them to their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. Doughty has also won two Olympic Gold medals in 2010 and 2014 as a member of Canada’s national team. In the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals, the Kings won again and Doughty became the seventh player to win both the Stanley Cup and an Olympic Gold medal in the same year.
In the 2015-16 season, after being nominated for the third time, Drew Doughty finally was awarded the Norris Trophy for the best defenseman in the NHL.
