Daniel Oliver Hampton was born on September 19, 1957 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is a former National Football League Player who played high school football at Jacksonville High School. He was an outstanding football varsity athlete in University of Arkansas. He was inducted to the school’s Sports Hall of Honor and was a member of the All-Century Team. In the University of Arkansas’ 20th Century Greatest Athletes, Hampton was one of the Top 50 Players.
He entered the National Football League in 1979 when the Chicago Bears drafted him and made a four-year deal with him. He was named to the All-Rookie in 1979. Hampton was a four-time Pro Bowl player and was an instrumental part of the Bears’ win over the New England Patriots in the 1985 Super Bowl XX. 1982 was a superb season for Hampton as he recorded 9 sacks in nine games and was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year choice of the Pro Football Weekly. He was included in the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team and was a recipient of the George Halas Courage Award in 1990.
He ended his football career in 1990. He was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002 together with George Allen, Jim Kelly and others.
