Claudell Washington is a former American professional baseball player. He was born in Los Angeles, California and graduated from Berkeley High School located in Berkeley, California. Throughout his entire career from 1974 to 1990, Washington played as outfielder for numerous teams in the Major League Baseball; the Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox, New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees and the California Angels.
Washington was listed at 6 ft and 190 lbs. He both batted and threw left handed. He began his professional career in the Major League Baseball after he was signed by the Oakland Athletics in 1972 as amateur free agent. Washington made his debut on July 5, 1974. Washington was one of the youngest All Stars in history of the major league when he was named to the 1975 American League All-Star team at the age of 20. In May 1978, Washington was traded to the Chicago White Sox for Bobby Bonds. After the 1980 season, Washington became a free agent, and signed with the Atlanta Braves before the start of 1981 season. On June 1986, Washington was traded to the New York Yankees and had his final game on June 18, 1990. Washington was released by the Yankees, and retired after the 1990 season.
