A native of Wichita, Kansas, Barry David Sanders was born on July 16, 1968. He was the former running back of the Detroit Lions where he spent his entire professional career. He was known as one of the most prolific running backs in the history of NFL. However, he left the game just after an all-time rushing record. He was not only considered as one of the greatest running backs in the league but is also the most elusive.
He spent his high school days in Wichita North High. It was only on the fourth game during his senior year in 1985 when he played as the running back. In the last seven games of the said season, he rushed 1, 322 yards, earning him all-state honors. But because of his 5 feet and 8 inches height, Sanders was oftentimes overlooked by many recruiters in college. Of the few scholarships offered to him, he picked Oklahoma State.
Just like Jack Lambert, Sanders has also garnered numerous awards and achievements during his playing career. He had 10 touchdowns and 352 receptions for 2, 921 yards as the receiver of the Lions. He also led for four times the rushing yards for the NFL during the years 1990, 1994, 1996 and 1997. For five times, he rushed more than 1, 500 yards in a single season, putting him on the NFL record. He really has a lengthy list of achievements just like his fellow American football players, Ray Lewis and Eli Manning.
It cannot be avoided that his name will sometimes be misspelled as Barey Sanders, Bary Sanders, Barrey Sanders, Barry Sanderrs, Barry Sunders, Barry Sannders and Barry Sanderss.
