You may recognize Ashley Harkleroad after posing for Playboy magazine. However, the American beauty is actually a professional tennis player. She was born in Rossvile, Georgia and has played in a number of tournaments. Harkleroad started to play professionally in 2000. She participated in the 1999 ITF Tournament that was held in Largo, Florida.
However, it was in the next year when Harkleroad would be able to play in the U.S. Open. Her game significantly improved during the next year and in 2002, Harkleroad was able to make it to the second rounds of the San Diego, Hawaii and Bratislava events and was even able to reach the semis while playing doubles with Maria Emilia Salerni.
It was in 2003 when Harkleroad finally turned heads after she was able to beat players Elena Bovina who was then ranked No. 16, Meghann Shaughnessy ranked No. 19 and Daniela Hantuchova ranked No. 9. She was able to reach the semifinals even if she was ranked at No. 101. She was also able to reach the semifinals at Strasbourg later in that season and beat Hantuchova for the second time during the Roland Garros. By the time she played in the Japan Open, Harkleroad was already ranked No. 39.
