About Pekka Rinne Autographed Memorabilia & Collectibles

    Historical Milestones

Pekka Rinne is a Finnish professional hockey goaltender for the National Hockey League. Rinne currently plays for the Nashville Predators and has been playing with them, and in the NHL, since the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

After playing for the Oulun Karpat, Rinne made his NHL debut with the Predators after being selected during the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He began his playing career with the Predators’ top minor league affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, and became a starter after hockey goalie for the team Brian Finley was playing poorly. In 2006, Rinne suffered from a dislocated shoulder, one that would require surgery, after a “couple of unknown assailants.” Despite his initial hardship with the league, he appeared in two NHL games during the 2005-06 season and had a record of 1-1-0 with a .900 save percentage and a 2.80 goals against average. In 2008, Pekka Rinne became the second Nashville Predators rookie goaltender to record a shutout. The following season, he recorded nine wins in twelve games, had a .944 save percentage, and a 1.72 goals against average, making him the NHL Rookie of the Month. He achieved a franchise record with seven shutouts during that season. He was also one of two goaltenders, the other Karri Ramo, to be selected to play for Finland during the 2009 IIHF World Championship of Hockey. After an injury, Rinne recovered and played some of the best hockey, with a 1.71 GAA and .946 save percentage during January of 2011. At the end of the season, he earned numerous honors as he was named as one of the three finalists for the Vezina Trophy, awarded to the league’s top goaltender, finished fourth for the Hart Memorial Trophy, awarded to the league’s most valuable player, and was named the NHL Second Team All-Star. In 2011, Rinne played a star role in leading the Predators to their first ever Stanley Cup Playoff series win, defeating the Anaheim Ducks in a 4-2 series win. Based on his Stanley Cup performance, Rinne set a franchise record for shutouts with 22. On November 3, 2011, he signed a seven-year deal with the Predators worth $49 million, making it the largest contract in Nashville history. He continued to accomplish success with a franchise record for 11 consecutive wins and as he led the NHL in terms of wins, shots against, saves, and games played. He was again a nominee for the Vezina Trophy, three more times, along with being a nominee for the 2015 Bill Masterton Trophy. In 2015, Rinne became the fastest goaltender to record 30 wins in 39 games. In all of League history, he was just the third goaltender to record 30 wins in 39 games or less. In 2017, he became the 67th goalie to play in at least 500 League games, and that year he became the League’s leader among goaltenders born in Finland for his 45th career shutout. He became the 34th goalie to record 300 career wins, and he had the highest win percentage (54.34%) of all of the goalies who shared 300 career wins.

Using the popular butterfly style of goaltending, Rinne is always ready to drop his knees early and to save the goal.
