Since 1993 the Stars have called Dallas their home. Prior to playing in Dallas, this franchise existed as the Minnesota North Stars from 1967-1993. During the late-1990s they won two Western Conference titles and Presidents’ Trophies as well as the Stanley Cup title in 1999. The Stars play in the Central Division of the Western Conference and call the American Airlines Center they're home.
The Minnesota North Stars and Cleveland Barons merged due to financial troubles that both franchises were having in the late-1970s. Their financial troubles emerged once again in the early-1990s and the franchise permanently relocated to Dallas in 1993. Throughout the 1990s the franchise put together a formidable roster that included future Hall of Famers Ed Balfour, Mike Modano, and Brett Hull as well as team captain Derian Hatcher. The Stars finished the 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 season with the best record in the NHL, receiving the Presidents’ Trophy after both seasons. They also won Western Conference titles in 1999 and 2000, winning the Stanley Cup in 1999. The Stars defeated the Buffalo Sabres in six games in the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals and Joe Nieuwendyk won the Conn Smythe Trophy. Through the 2007-2008 NHL season, the organization continued to make the postseason but was unsuccessful in returning back to the Stanley Cup Finals. In recent years the Stars have not achieved as much success as they would have liked, but with the acquisitions of Jason Spezza and Tyler Seguin, the organization is ready to compete for Stanley Cup titles and Presidents’ Trophies once again.
