Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Carolina Hurricanes are a professional NHL team playing in the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference. Formed in 1971 as the New England Whalers in the World Hockey Association, the team joined the NHL as a part of the 1979 merger. Relocating to North Carolina in 1997, the team adopted its current name, the Carolina Hurricanes, and has since played all home games in the PNC Arena.
Finding success early on, the Carolina Panthers brought home their first Stanley Cup victory in the 2005-06 season, beating the Edmonton Oilers in a 4-3 upset. Since then, the Hurricanes have remained a fierce competitor in their division and conference, bringing home a total two Conference championships and three division titles. Their success, though, would never have been possible without the incredible talent found on their roster, including Hall of Famers Ron Francis and Paul Coffey. Now led by strong athletes such as Justin Faulk and Cam Ward, the Carolina Hurricanes are on the hunt for their next Stanley Cup win.
