Historical Milestones
The Colts franchise has their roots dating back to 1953 when they were known as the Baltimore Colts. While playing in Baltimore they won three NFL Championships and a Super Bowl title. The franchise relocated to Indianapolis in 1984 and are members of the AFC South Division, currently calling Lucas Oil Stadium their home. After moving to Indianapolis they won another Super Bowl title and have appeared in another.
During the late 1950s, Johnny Unitas took on the role of the Colts’ starting quarterback. Unitas helped revolutionize the game in a time when the league was not as pass-oriented as it is today. This Hall of Famer led the franchise to NFL titles in 1958, 1959, and 1968, as well as a title at Super Bowl V. The Colts, were a part of maybe the most important game in NFL history at Super Bowl III, losing to the New York Jets 16-7. This was the first Super Bowl victory for an AFL team and played an important role in the NFL-AFL merger that happened in 1970. Throughout the 1970s the Colts won multiple AFC East Division titles, making numerous playoff appearances led by Pro Bowlers Bert Jones and Lydell Mitchell. In 1984 the franchise moved to Indianapolis and made a few playoff appearances during the 1980s and 1990s with their best season coming in 1995 that saw quarterback Jim Harbaugh leading them to the AFC Championship Game. The 1997 NFL season would be a difficult one for the team, with only 3 victories that year. It would end up being to their benefit though because it allowed them to draft Peyton Manning with the first overall pick of the 1998 NFL Draft. Manning led the Colts to two Super Bowl appearances, winning and being named the MVP of Super Bowl XLI. After a 2-14 2011 season, they once again had the first pick of the NFL Draft. The Colts would again select another quarterback, this time Andrew Luck who is now one of the league’s top players. Prior to the 2018 NFL season, Frank Reich was named the head coach of the team after he helped lead the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl title as their offensive coordinator the previous season.
The Indianapolis Colts are an iconic NFL franchise. Their horseshoe helmet is one of the most well-known logos in all of sports and you will never regret purchasing autographed memorabilia for this franchise. Signed sports collectibles for Super Bowl Champions such as Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, Marvin Harrison, and Dallas Clark will look wonderful displayed in any man cave or sports room.
