The Chicago Bears are one of the most storied franchises in the NFL. This franchise is one of the two original NFL franchises still playing, they were first known as the Decatur Staleys and Chicago Staleys. The Bears have the most wins out of all the franchises in the NFL and have had more Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees than any other franchise. They call the iconic Soldier Field home since 1971 but prior to playing there, they played at the equally historic Wrigley Field. This franchise is known for having one of the most diehard fan bases in all of sports and for having one of the best rivalries in all of sports with their NFC North rival the Green Bay Packers.
The Bears had immediate success after the National Football League began to play in 1920, winning NFL Championships in 1921, 1932, 1933, 1940, 1941, 1943, 1946, and 1963. Among the first icons in their history is George Halas who was the founder and owner of the team as well as their head coach and a player. Under Halas’ guidance, the franchise would win six NFL Championships and he was named the Coach of the Year twice by the Associated Press. During the 1940s their defense was nicknamed the “Monsters of the Midway” for their dominating play on the gridiron. Their defense from this era is still regarded as one of the best defenses in NFL history. Gale Sayers was selected by the franchise with the fourth overall pick of the 1965 NFL Draft and he went on to have a Hall of Fame career. His career only spanned from 1965-1971 after being cut short by injuries but he still managed to rush for nearly 5,000 career yards and 39 touchdowns. They would return to dominance in the 1980s under Head Coach Mike Ditka, winning Super Bowl XX by a score of 46-10 over the New England Patriots. The Bears only lost one game that season and that is no shock with a roster stacked with legends including Walter Payton, Mike Singletary, and Richard Dent. The Bears won another NFC title after the 2006 regular season but lost to the Peyton Manning-led Indianapolis Colts at Super Bowl XLI 29-17. Currently, the Bears are on their way back to the top with a roster stocked full of superstars including Mitchell Trubisky, Kyle Fuller, Khalil Mack, and Roquan Smith.
