
Historical Houston Rockets Milestones
The Houston Rockets are a NBA franchise that competes in the league’s Western Conference. The Rockets play in the Southwest Division and have called Houston home since 1971. Prior to playing in Houston the Rockets played in San Diego. The Toyota Center is where the Rockets play their home games, an arena that is capable of housing over 18,000 rowdy Rockets fans.
The Rockets have had many great superstars play for their franchise. One of those superstars is Moses Malone, a two-time NBA MVP Award winner while playing for the Houston Rockets. Malone’s No. 24 jersey is retired by the Rockets and Malone was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001. In 1984 Hakeem Olajuwon was drafted by the Rockets with the first overall selection of the NBA Draft. Olajuwon went on to the lead the Rockets to two NBA titles in 1994 and 1995, winning the NBA Finals MVP Award twice. During the 1995 season Clyde Drexler was traded to the Rockets and played a key role in the franchise’s 1995 NBA Championship. This All-Star’s No. 22 jersey was also retired by the Rockets after Drexler’s retirement from the NBA. Mike D’Antoni is the current head coach of the Rockets and is widely regarded among the most innovative coaches in NBA history. Superstars James Harden and Chris Paul, two of the NBA’s premier players are now looking to lead the franchise back to another NBA title.
