About Dallas Mavericks Autographed Memorabilia & Collectibles

Historical Milestones

The Dallas Mavericks were first established as an NBA franchise in 1980. The Mavericks over the years have cultivated a base of diehard fans which can be seen in their home game sellout streak which dates all the way back to 2001. Their colorful owner Mark Cuban has also helped elevate the franchise over the years to being one of the most talked about and covered organizations in all of sports. The Mavs claimed their first title in the 2011 NBA Finals over the heavily favored Miami Heat.

During the first decade of the franchise’s existence they were led on the court by Rolando Blackman, Derek Harper, and Brad Davis. This group of players led the team to its first divisional title during the 1986-1987 NBA season. Over the course of the 1990s, the Mavs struggled to remain competitive but they did draft Jason Kidd with the second overall selection of the 1994 NBA Draft. Kidd would only play for the franchise for 2 ½ years before being traded to the Phoenix Suns, he would return to the franchise and play for it from 2008-2012 though. In 1998 Dirk Nowitzki joined the team and has been a constant in their lineup ever since. A key moment in franchise history came in 2000, when billionaire Mark Cuban purchased the team and became the face of the franchise. Still to this day, Cuban can be seen sitting courtside cheering on the Mavs as rabid as any fan there is. In 2006 Nowitzki led the Mavs to the their first ever Western Conference title but they lost to the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals after taking a 2-0 series lead. Nowitzki would get his revenge though in 2011 by defeating the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals, the Heat were heavy favorites because they had a roster that included superstars LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. In recent years they have had difficulty repeating past success but the future is incredibly bright for this franchise.
