Historical Milestones
The Milwaukee Brewers are an MLB team that plays in the National League Central division. Originally the Seattle Pilots, the Brewers franchise came into the league in 1969 but quickly relocated to Milwaukee after just one season. Since 2001, the Brewers have played their home games at Miller Park. The Brewers have not been a historically winning franchise despite having unbelievably talented teams and players over the years. Their best season came in 1982 when they were still a member of the American League East division. The Brewers won their division led by a team full of Hall of Famers in Rollie Fingers, Robin Yount, Paul Molitor and Don Sutton. The Athletics then beat the California Angels for their first AL pennant and would go on to lose in the World Series against the Cardinals.
Since going to the World Series in 1982, the Brewers have made the playoffs just two times. The first time was when they won the Wild Card in 2008. That team had the great young infield of Prince Fielder, J.J. Hardy and Rickie Weeks with Ryan Braun in the outfield to form a formidable lineup. They ultimately lost to the eventual World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies. In 2011, with the same core of player minus Hardy, the Brewers won the NL Central for the first time. The Brewers would beat the Arizona Diamondbacks for their first playoff series win in 29 years but would lose in the next round to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Currently, the Brewers are one of the best teams in the National League, with a real chance to make it to the playoffs. They may just have the best outfields in baseball with four quality options in Christian Yelich, Lorenzo Cain, Ryan Braun and Domingo Santana and solid infielders in Travis Shaw and Jonathan Villar. One of the most exciting young players on the Brewers is super-reliever Josh Hader, who is proving to be one of the most unhittable pitchers in the MLB.
