Historical Milestones
The Cleveland Indians are an MLB team that plays in the American League Central division. They came into the league in 1901 and since 1994 they have played their home games in Progressive Field. The Indians won two World Series, the first being in 1920 and the second in 1948. The 1948 Indians featured many Hall of Famers including star pitcher Bob Feller, shortstop Lou Boudreau, center fielder Larry Doby, second baseman Joe Gordon, and pitchers Bob Lemon and Satchel Paige. Since 1948 they have not won the World Series giving them the longest drought in the sport.
After winning the first two World Series that they played, in the Indians went to the World Series again in 1954 but lost. They then went 41 seasons without making the playoffs until 1995. The Indians of the late 1990s were a great team that shockingly never won it all. With a core of great players including Manny Ramirez, Omar Vizquel and Jim Thome Indians won the West division five straight times from 1995 through 1999 and then again in 2001 but never won it all. They did add to AL pennants in 1995 and 1997 but lost first to the mighty Atlanta Braves before being upset in 1997 by the Marlins. The Indians won the division again in 2007, 2016 and 2017. In 2016 the Indians took the Cubs to extra innings in Game 7 of the World Series but were ultimately defeated.
Currently managed by the great Terry Francona, the Indians have a roster full of players that went the World Series in 2016. These players include stud reliever Andrew Miller and Cody Allen, starting pitchers Trevor Bauer and Carlos Carrasco, and infielders Jose Ramirez, Francisco Lindor and Jason Kipnis.
