Historical Mariano Rivera Milestones
Dominant, if you had to sum up Mariano Rivera’s Hall of Fame career in one word, none would be more fitting. Considered to be the greatest closer in Major League Baseball history, Rivera served as an integral and arguably the most necessary piece to five World Series Championship teams during his storied career with the New York Yankees. As one of the premier players in modern baseball, Mariano Rivera, or better known as “Mo”, recorded 652 saves, which is currently the highest total in baseball history. With a reputation for one of the hardest pitches to hit, Rivera is known for frequently breaking bats with his mid-90 mile-per-hour cut fastball. His signature pitch, the cutter, is often called the toughest single pitch of all-time, while Mo is known as one of the most composed and precise pitchers ever to grace the mound. In addition to his pitching style, Mariano’s appearance on the field is personified by his walk-out song, “Enter Sandman” and the former MLB pitcher is known as a world class act off the field. Despite his reliable consistency on the mound and regular season accomplishments, Rivera’s true greatness showed in the postseason where he holds league records for most saves and lowest earned run average. Mariano Rivera is also a five-time winner of the Rolaids Relief Man of the Year award, given to the best relief pitcher each season, and following the events of September 11, 2001, he donated his trophy to the New York City Fire Department in honor of the men and women who serve the city. Throughout the entirety of his 17-season professional baseball career, Mariano Rivera led the Yankees to five World Series Championships and was selected to 13 All-Star Games. As Mariano Rivera approached his retirement, the entire baseball community honored his legacy throughout his final season in 2013 and the Yankees retired his uniform No. 42.
A man who dominated his position, Mariano Rivera is the greatest relief pitcher in baseball history and a player that will be remembered in the MLB forever. Although voters have been apprehensive to induct closing pitchers into the Hall of Fame, there is no doubt that since “Mo” retired, the Baseball Hall of Fame will come calling as soon as he becomes eligible. As the most important component to five World Series Championship teams, Rivera’s greatness can be added to your collection with an investment in one of the greatest baseball players of all-time from our selection of Mariano Rivera memorabilia.
